Q: Do I Have to be a resident of Spain to buy a property?

Anyone who is a resident of an EU country can buy a property in Spain.  You will need a Spanish N.I.E number, which is simple to obtain – your lawyer can do this for you.

Q: Do I still receive my U.K pension?

Yes.  You will need to contact the DSS overseas pension department, they will send you the necessary forms.  They will pay this into your Spanish account.

Q: Do I need a lawyer?

Yes.  A Spanish lawyer who speaks fluent English is best.

Q: Will I have to pay taxes on my Spanish property?

Yes. If you require further information we would be happy to recommend an accountant to give advice.

Q: Do I require a Spanish will?

Yes. Your lawyer can draw a will up at the same time you purchase a property.

Q: How do I open a bank account in Spain?

The process is similar to the U.K. 

You will need to take your passport and 2 additional forms of identification and a proof of address.

There are English banks i.e, Halifax and Barclays.

Q: How do I apply for a mortgage in Spain
